March Book Club: Greek Lessons by Han Kang | Wednesday 3rd March, 7-9pm
A casual, friendly book club where we discuss this month's book, hosted by Rosie from Shelf Life Books and Zines.
Our March meeting will be held in the Cwtch at Chapter Arts Centre, Wednesday 3rd March, 7-9pm, around the corner from the Corp. We’ll have some snacks (feel free to byo!) and drinks, and we'll be discussing Greek Lessons by (Nobel prize winner!) Han Kang. Here's the blurb:
In a classroom in Seoul, a young woman watches her Greek language teacher at the blackboard. She tries to speak but has lost her voice.
Her teacher finds himself drawn to the silent woman, for day by day he is losing his sight. Soon they discover a deeper pain binds them. For her, in the space of just a few months, she has lost both her mother and the custody battle for her nine-year-old son.
For him, it's the pain of growing up between Korea and Germany, being torn between two cultures and languages. Greek Lessons is a tender love letter to human connection, a novel to awaken the senses, vividly conjuring the essence of what it means to be alive.
All attendees will have 10% off through the Shelf Life website, just use the code ILOVEBOOKCLUB at the checkout. We also have paid-forward copies available for anyone who needs one. Ticket costs are sliding scale - funds are used to cover the room hire and to keep it accessible to everyone so please choose whichever suits you best.
Chapter Arts Centre is fully wheelchair accessible and the Cwtch is on ground floor at the end of the bar by the doors to the beer garden. If you have any access needs, just drop us a message and we'll do everything we can to accommodate them. If you're nervous about attending (we get it!) for the first time, feel free to pop in or message for more info about the club/location or drop us a message if you'd like someone to meet you outside on your way in.
See you there!
